Lucy Grey & Savannah have their beagle babies with Malia

Lucy Grey and Savannah are co-owned girls with Malia from Wonderland Beagles. As Malia is a new beagle breeder/exhibitor, I am honored to mentor her in showing, grooming, breeding and whelping. We plan to do two litters together and then she will be able to have litters on her own, if she wishes to. She has been an integral part in choosing the stud matches for each girl based on health, temperament and structure and I am excited for her to have Bred By puppies to show in the future.

Something you should know is that weeks before the girls’ due date, the unexpected happened.

In Early August, some fires were started by arsons. These fires quickly escalated due to 50 mile an hour winds and even jumped over the Spokane River. Malia and Brandon’s house was evacuated and they spent several days with the dogs at a local community center not knowing if their house stood or was burned to the ground.

Neighbors not too far away, lost everything, but by some miracle their home was spared and after an anxious week, they were able to return home. The girl’s safety and well being, along with their other dogs, was of utmost importance and I was grateful for that. Of course, they were told they could have moved in with us, but there is no place like living at home if that is an option.

**This is a good time to do a plug for crate training. We never know if something unexpected will happen – Brandon and Malia’s dogs are comfortable in a crate and so were allowed in the community center. Unfortunately, dogs and their families are turned away if they can not be in a crate – this is one of the many reasons I recommend crate training even if it is just for them to feel comfortable in the case of the unexpected**

Malia and Brandon whelped Lucy’s litter on August 20th – 3 girls and 2 boys – all Tri colored and all healthy.

Girl 1: River

Boy 1: Sol

Boy 2: Banksy

Girl 2: Breezy

Girl 3: Spring

A few days later, Savannah started digging and panting and we knew her time had come also. Not much time for poor Brandon and Malia to rest up, but in some ways it makes it easier as if you are getting up for one litter you might as well get up for two 🙂

Savannah had her litter in the early evening of the 22nd Aug. 2 Tri Boys, 1 RW boy and 1 RW girl

In honor of the fires, that were now under control, they were named in remembrance of the Spokane fires.

RW Girl – Ember

RW Boy: Spark

Tri Boy 1: Ash

Tri Boy 2: Smolder

Both mama’s are excellent mommies and the puppies are thriving under their care. We are so thankful for these little ones and I can’t wait to get over the mountains and give them snuggles as soon as I am able.
