Sylvie’s beagle pups are 1 week old

Just as suspected, Sylvie is an amazing mother and the pups are thriving. She keeps them spotlessly clean and well fed. Both girls have put on double their birthweight and girl 2 has tripled hers. She is chunky. LOL

Enjoy the photos of them – their first official ones. I have decided to call them the Olsen twins. So – without further ado

The cavalier puppies all play together in the puppy garden

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the weather is warm enough that the little babies can actually go outside. We allowed Nellie’s 2 remaining pups (now 12 weeks) to play with them and it went well. I mean, they beat up on them a little but not too bad.

Enjoy the photos of them in our puppy yard. We just replanted some Oregon Grape there so it looks a little disheveled, but will make an excellent place for them to play as they grow.

Sylvie and Tex welcome their puppies

Sylvie had an easy pregnancy, but also had some weird things – she bled (giant blood clots) starting from day 30 all the way up till about a week before she gave birth.

On day 64 I took her to my vet with no signs of labor. Her progesterone was 2.4 (we like it to be under 2 for a c-section). With 2 pups on board, we knew there was a possibility that her body wouldnt drop enough progesterone for labor to start and so we opted to give her a c-section and get the pups out safe and sound. I am always so thankful to Dr Anders Thoreson and the team at Klahaya for their care and kindness of my dogs.

I am so thankful that I get to be back there to rub babies down and be some of the first people to greet them earthside. Sylvie’s surgery went off without a hitch, and we got 2 healthy GIRLS – the babies were born hungry and vocal and ready for their first meal

Back at home, Syl settled in well – babies nursed well and quickly started to put on weight. As you might notice in the photos below, one of our sweet girls has a natural bob tail. She was checked over by our vet and he said there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with her. I am thankful for that.

I am so thankful to have these healthy girls. The one with the bob tail will be available since I wont be able to show her or use her in my breeding program. She will make a beautiful companion for someone.

Phoenix’s ckcs cavalier pups are 5 weeks old

Spring is here and the weather is so nice this week (for the PNW anyway) 🙂 LOL. It was 65 today and so I took the pups out for their first outdoor adventure. They were a litle unsure but did great. I will post indiviudal photos now and then group photos on another post.

Enjoy

Phoenix’s CKCS pups are 4 weeks old

I have to say the reminder that Phoenix’s blenhiem girl is staying with a friend till she is a little older (see my previous blogpost) – so we wont have official photos of her for a few more weeks.

However, the 3 i have are doing great – they are eating mushy food now and all well over a 1lb – which is 4x their birthweights – pretty incredible. They are playing with each other (or attempting to at least) and making little squeaks when I go in – I love it.

So enjoy their 4 week photos.

Cavalier indoor playtime

The PNW is both beautiful and can be wet at this time of the year. The puppies enjoy time outside in their play yard while it is dry but when it is raining they have plenty of romping time in our living room. It was bitterly cold and raining today so they enjoyed playtime in our living space and of course I had to document them

Enjoy them – 9 weeks today.

Tex has an amazing weekend

Chelsea and I are so excited about Tex.

He picked up his first group placement under breeder-judge Dana Cline and made the cut in a strong Hound Group under Sheila Paske on the Sunday this weekend.

He is just 20 months old and so thrilled at his placement so young. He is bred and owned by myself Sarah Sweetman and Chelsea Metteer from Van-Mar beagles out of our Spencer and Puddin litter.

To make it even better, he is all clear for MLS, Factor VII, PRA, NCCD, PK Def., POAG, Lafora, and OFA normal for cardiac and eyes.

Wintery fun in the yard

Winter in the PNW can be a little dreary at times as the weather is wet and the dogs can’t get out as much as we would like them to. It has been cold and so the rain has turned to ice, but since it’s not raining, we are playing outdoors anyway.

Enjoy the photos of them from today. I love watching them play.

Nellie’s pups arrived

Nellie was due on the 1st of Feb, but she had other plans and decided to go into labor a little early.

Unfortunately we lost a ruby boy that was stillborn and then the blenheim boy went septic and we lost him within 24 hours (he swallowed meconium in his sack unfortunately).

The other four, 2 ruby boys and 2 blen girls are doing excellent.

Nellie is a phenomenal mother and we are so proud of how she has taken to her new role so quickly.

Weekend in Alexandria LA

My friend Dolly (JoyfulNoise beagles) and I went to Alexandria LA this last weekend – we wanted to spend time with Mike & Karen and learn from them (grooming, handling tips & beagle history). Bonus was that I took Nick and got his ATT (Akc Temperament Title) and watched Nick and Mike get 3 BOV and 2 group 2s and a group 3! Callie (5 months) played in the puppy ring and fun match getting BOV and BHgroup2 both times.

We then met up with my daughter who was visiting her brother in Monroe, and travelled home together. It was so so fun to meet beagle people I had never met before (only online) and see old friends too. When can we go back?
