MRI Health Testing on Arrow ~ the results are in

As you know, health testing is just as important to me (as a breeder) as beauty and temperament.  I take my job as a breeder seriously, and I believe that if I am going to add dogs to the world, I want it to be done so with careful thought.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can have issues with SM (Syringomyelia) in their brain.   The only way to detect it is with a MRI.  So Alisha and I decided that we wanted to scan Arrow before we bred her.    We flew her up to the amazing team at Thames Valley Veterinary Services in Ontario Canada.

I am so glad we did – no SM was detected in her brain at all – what a wonderful health clearance we have!!!   Now, on to breeding her 🙂

Puppy Sitting

Its been over a year and a half since we had a litter of puppies so when Alisha from Lockestar Cavaliers contacted me about socializing her recent litter, we jumped at the chance.  These puppies’ mom is Arrow’s sister Penny.

Baylea, Kinzie and Dollar were a little timid at first but it didn’t take them long to get used to the “small humans” in our home 🙂

What fun to have these little puppies in our home for the week!

Rose Classic – Portland Shows

It is my first time being on the road and staying away from home during a dog show – the Portland Rose classic is a big 4 day All-breed show.  Its fun to play around in the Best of Breed ring as we try to garner points towards our Grand CH title.

Over the weekend we got Select 2x and went Best of Opposite 2x which equates to 4 more points towards our title. Wahoo!

Maddy gets a Group 4

Getting Best of Breed is an honor.  Once you are the best in your breed, you get to show against the best in breed in all the other breeds in your group.

For beagles, they are a hound and so go back into the ring with the best of breeds such as Afgans, Deerhounds, Bassets, Dachshunds, Whippets, Greyhounds….well you get the idea.  🙂  There are a lot of amazing dogs in the same ring.

Well today, Maddy got 4th place in Hound group – how exciting for us!!  We are well on our way to our Canadian CH title.

Jessie’s final puppy

stella puppy

This is little Stella – Jessie’s final puppy.  With progesterone testing and perfect timing, she produced only one puppy, so we made the hard decision to spay her on delivery.

With breeding, we take our job very seriously – not just extensively health testing our dams – but also making hard decisions if we need to.

Unfortunately, Jessie had trouble getting pregnant and trouble whelping.  It is no one’s fault – it is just the nature of nature.  But we believe that its unfair to Jessie to make her go through this again and so spaying her means we can have her as our couch potato from now on.

Little Stella was 5 oz at birth and took about 30 minutes to breathe steadily.  She is now nursing well and growing perfectly.  We are in love.

Welcoming Maddy

After much deliberation, we talked to Sheri from Foxtail beagles about acquiring a puppy from her recent litter.  Maddy is the half sister to Stella (both being sired by JJ – BIS BISS CH Foxtails Race for the Race) but Maddy is closer aligned to what I want in a show puppy (and ultimately to breed from).

So we welcome Madison (aka Foxtails Dreaming of the Race) to our family.  <3
