Nick is our New Grand Champion

Nick continues to show us he is a gift wrapped in a little tri package!

This weekend Mike and Karen attended the Ochlocknee River Kennel Club of Florida & Greater Panama City Fanciers Association in Tallahassee Florida.

Nick (CH Kazuriโ€™s All I Want For Christmas) blew us away by gaining all of the other requirements he needed to get his GRAND CH (Akc pending) – winning five 5 point majors to finish in 2 weekends as a move up special. ?

On Friday he went Best of Opposite to Paul Hines and Carol Herrโ€™s lovely girl Noel under judge Mr Allen L Odem. This was an honor as Noel went on to win Reserve Best In Show!

On Saturday we went Best of Breed under judge Mr Dana P. Cline.

On Sunday we went Best of Breed under Dr. Steve Keating. He then went on to win a Hound Group 2 under judge Mr Allen L Odem.

I am so thankful to these judges for finding our boy in a large entry of lovely beagles. I am always thankful to Mike and Karen for their care and handling of our Nick.

Nick gets two Group placements his first weekend as a special

I am truly floating on cloud 9 after this weekend. It is the kind of weekend breeders dream of. I loved Nick as a puppy and had some high hopes for him but to see it come true is something else.

There is more to being a group placer than just being “pretty”. They have to be able to stay confident amongst all the other breeds of dogs and not feel intimidated. They need to be able to sit around for hours in their crate waiting for their ring time, and then be “on” when it’s their turn. They need to be okay with all the travel and change of venues as they go from show to show. Some dogs prefer to be homebodies, others thrive on the change. You don’t know if your dog is going to love showing until you start working with them. Nick LOVES it. You just have to watch the videos of him and you can see how much.

Here is how the Strawberry Classic weekend went for Nick (now CH Kazuri’s All I Want For Christmas).

Nick went Winners Dog and Best of Winners on Friday under Mrs Sulie Greendale-Paveza for a 4 point major to finish his CH title with 3 majors and 17 points.

We moved him up to the “Breed” as a champion on Saturday and for his first day as a “Special” he won the Breed (over several specials – one of whom is currently the #1 dog in the USA) under Ms. JoAnne Buehler. Mrs Buehler was also our Hound group judge and we won a Group 3 under her! WOW! There were some beautiful dogs in that ring!

On Sunday Nick won the breed again judge Mr. Raymond V. Filburn Jr. he then went on to win a Hound group 1 under Mr Filburn!! Oh my gosh!! To say I was blown away was an understatement!

I am so thankful to these judges who found that Nick was a quality dog in the lineup of such quality hounds. We have our first Grand CH points and our first points towards All breed and Breed ranking. Something I have never even thought of before. This is all new territory for me. <3 I am excited to see what this new adventure brings.

This link is the hound group where Nick got his group 3 (it was televised that day). He is on at 21:30 if you want to see him.

Rosie gets both her Majors

Rosie (Kazuri’s Everything’s Coming Up Roses) had a wonderful weekend at the Strawberry Classic in Lakeland Florida. She went Reserve Winners Bitch on Friday under Mrs Sulie Greendale-Paveza.

Rosie went on to win Winners Bitch and Best of Winners for a 4 point major on Saturday under Ms. JoAnne Buehler.

On Sunday she repeated her win for Winners Bitch and Best of Winners and a 3 point major on Sunday under judge Mr. Raymond V. Filburn Jr.

I am so thankful to these judges who found that Rosie was a quality girl in the lineup of 13 inch dogs. She now just needs 3 singles to finish her CH title. Not bad for only 2 weekends of showing ๐Ÿ™‚ Good job Rosie Posie.

Nick picks up his majors in Brooksville Florida

One of the biggest early show clusters of the year happens in Brooksville Florida. It is 10 days of shows broken into two 5 day clusters. The week before there is a multi day show circuit in Texas and so these shows tend to pull pretty good numbers. Little did we know that with the added stress of COVID cancelling dog shows all over the USA, these shows had record numbers this year ๐Ÿ™‚

My co-breeders/co-owners Mike and Karen Kurtzner thought it might be a fun idea to head across to the first cluster of these shows from the 14th – 18th Jan and take Nick (Kazuri’s All I Want For Christmas) and Rosie (Kazuri’s Everything’s Coming Up Roses). As luck would have it, Rosie went into season days before the shows started, and so we had to pull her from showing. No one wants an ovulating female driving all the boys wild in the ring or even ringside. ๐Ÿ™‚ It was such a bummer, but needed to happen.

With an entry of around 35 beagles total each day, there were 4 and 5 point majors each day in the classes. Wonderful numbers. Nick went “Best Bred By” in dogs each day except for Sunday. The icing on the cake was Nick going Winners Dog and Best of Winners for a 5 point major on Saturday under judge Ms. Denny C Mounce. Then on Monday, he repeated his success by doing the same thing, gaining a 4 point major under judge Mrs. Joanne Buehler.

I am very proud of sweet Nick and thankful to Mike and Karen who drove all those miles back and forth to Florida to show our boy. Thank you to the judges who recognized our boy. We appreciate it so much.

To Sir With Love

Sir is a sweet and loveable boy – the son of one the most famous beagles of all time “BIS BISS Kahootz Chase Manhatten” aka Ben. I had been wanting to do a breeding to Ben for a long time and since he passed away many years ago, I had to convince the owners of the rare semen left for him, to let me use it ๐Ÿ™‚ I feel so lucky.

Sir is our keeper boy. I have shown him a couple of times, and while he is a pretty boy, he needs to grow up a little bit. He is a typical young man – easily distracted by the world and everything around him. So, I want him to grow up a little bit and then try again in 2021.

Today I took some photos of him playing in the yard – he was exploring down by the lake and of course went a little too close and fell in – haha! He looked mortified. And then proceeded to find a toy to run around with.

San Mateo and Oakland Dog Shows

Rosie (Kazuri’s Everything’s Coming Up Roses) and Nick (Kazuri’s All I Want For Christmas) had their debut at the San Mateo and Oakland dog shows this weekend. Due to Covid, all the dog shows around California have been cancelled this year and so we were grateful that these ones went ahead with so much planning and social distancing.

My co-breeders and co-owners Mike and Karen Kurtzner took Rosie and Nick into the ring. We never know how a first weekend will go, especially when they are over a year, but Nick and Rosie took it all in stride and acted like they were old pros.

Rosie showed in 13s, taking Best of Breed Thursday, Friday and Saturday and then Reserve Winners Bitch on the Sunday.

Nick showed in 15s and went Best Dog and Best of Winners each day and then Best of Breed Saturday and Sunday – Saturday was over specials.

While there weren’t big points to be won, I am thrilled at the start these two have made.

A huge thank you to judges Mrs Barabara Dempsey Alderman, Ms Denney C. Mounce, Ms Peggy L Lloyd and Mrs Debbie Campbell-Freeman for recognizing our dogs.

Rosie is Madison x Walter (CH Foxtails Dreaming of the Race TKN x BISS GCH Meadowcrest Just Call Me Sir) and Nick is Vixen x Payton (CH Hailstorms Feeling a little Foxy at Kazuri TKN x CH Malarky In Good Company).

Echo wins another major at Ridgefield

Echo surprised us by winning another major on Saturday, at the Ridgefield dog shows this weekend. She won under judge Ms Mary Lynne Elliott and then was reserve to the major on the Sunday under judge Mr Dianne Kroll.

She now just needs 2 single points to finish her CH title. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think we will give Miss Echo the rest of the year off and work on that in the new year.

Echo Wins two Majors at Boise ID

Echo (Kazuri’s Feeling The Siren’s Call) has had a wonderful weekend in Boise, at the Idaho Capital City Kennel Club.

She went reserve to the major on the Friday under judge Mr Dean A Laney.

On the Saturday she went Best of Winners and Best of Opposite over a Special and won her first major – a 4point major under Mr Gary L Anderson!

She made us proud the next day by garnering her second major under judge Mrs Anne Katona when she went Winners Bitch again on the Sunday.

Echo is the daughter of Peyton (CH Malarky In Good Company) X Vixen (CH Hailstorms Feeling A Little Foxy At Kazuri TKN).

She currently has 10/15 of her CH points with limited showing. I couldn’t be prouder.

Vixen – “feeling A Little Foxy”

Miss Vixen was born on Christmas Eve. She was born down at my co-breeders home in Sacramento CA as we were on sabbatical in New Zealand for 7 weeks, and knew we wouldn’t be in town to whelp and raise the litter. This is the reason she bears the initial Affix “Hailstorms” as well as “Kazuri”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Her nicknames are “Vickle Pickle”, “Pickle dust”, “Pickle juice”, “Pixie” and “Dobby”. We always laugh that when she puts her ears back she looks just like Dobby the house elf. See if you can see it in the photos ๐Ÿ™‚

She is a fun loving little beagle – I say little as she is about 12.5inches tall. She is our fence jumper, although she cracks us up by pretending every day that she can’t jump on the couch. We joke that she likes to be a baby when she is inside and a “big girl” outside.

She is our best swimmer and avid boater – she loves to be out on the lake and jumps from Paddle Boat to Paddle Board. She has even been known to dive off one and swim to another to get to the boat or board she wants. Lake life sure does look good on her.

I took photos of her today. She is 9 weeks post whelp, but she is looking pretty good. I didnt have time to groom her, so she is hairy, but you get the idea. We are about to do a home remodel and so she is going to have a little vacation back with Mike and Karen in California, so I wanted to take some pictures before she left. <3 Love my little Dobby Pickle.

Mia’s babies turn 7 weeks

It’s been a while since I have posted about Mia’s litter – mainly because they are not being raised with me, and so I dont get to see much of them since they are in California. But today I got to see some stacked pictures of them – they are so beautiful. <3 Riker and Mia did so well. They are 7 weeks old and looking wonderful. We are making our final selections about them. You can see Mike and Karen dont give them blog names – just descriptions ๐Ÿ™‚ HA!
