Tori and Charlie welcome their cavalier babies to the world

For those who know me well, I have had a journey of ups and downs in my cavalier king charles breeding program. I have had many missed pregnancies, and re-absorbed puppies or puppies that have been DOA. Breeding is not for the faint of heart at the best of times, but sometimes it feels like the stars are not alinging.

Miss Tori is almost 3, and fully health tested. This was her first litter, and between you and me, she isnt the best eater. I was not sure how pregnancy would go for her. Surprisingly she took to pregnancy quite well and was looking rather round. I suspected maybe 6 on board.

Cavaliers are a little sneaky and like to give birth on day 58-61 rather than waiting the full 63 days, so when she started to show some signs of digging and restlessness on day 60 I watched her even closer than I had been before.

I slept overnight beside her, but it wasn’t until Tuesday that it seemed like things were kicking into gear. She didn’t want me to leave her side and wanted to pee frequently – both favorable signs.

The snood around her ears protects her ears from getting tangled/mucky during the birth process.

Around 9pm she started to push actively and at 9:20pm we had our first baby – a little girl

by 10:15pm she had her second little girl

By this stage I was surprised we got 2 blenheims – so when baby girl 3 came and it was a tri, I was so excited – another girl

I was starting to think maybe we were going to have a litter of all girls, but no baby 4 was a boy

Then another blen boy at 12:15

And one final boy arrived just after 1.

Tori was an absolute rockstar and already loves her babies – she licks them and pushes them close to her.

Nova’s beagle babies are 4 weeks old

Nova continues to be an amazing momma – the puppies are now her playmates as they are eating 3 meals a day. They LOVE food and the bowl is always licked clean. They don’t want to use their potty box yet, so we will just call that a work in progress. All I can say is lucky they are all so cute <3 haha

The weather was so warm in the 70s today and so I took the babies outside for a small outdoor play – they weren’t too sure about it, but I know each time they go out, their confidence will grow.

I love these tiny precious little pups. Lucky me for being the one to raise them.

Nova’s beagle babies are 3 weeks old

Nova’s babies tried their first taste of mush this week and they loved it. They have movies playing all day and so are enjoying the variety of sounds they provide. Nova is a great mom – she watches them and keeps them safe. She is enjoying more and more on her own with the rest of the pack.

They are getting stronger on their legs, and are starting to play with each other and move around clumsily. I love this sweet little stage where they discover their voices and growls.

Yakima was a great weekend!

Yes, we came home with a new champion, but we also had lots of other things to celebrate this weekend

Nick (MBIS MBISS GCHP Kazuri’s All I Want For Christmas ATT CGC TKN BCAT FDC) won BOV each day. We went on to a Hound Group 3 and OH Group 3 under judge Mrs Cindy Vogels, A OH Group 2 under Mr Robert Robinson and a Hound Group 4 under judge Ms. Yvonne Savard

Bro (Kazuri N Wonderlust Trouble’s A Brewin @ Cloudepoint) bred by Sarah Sweetman & Malia Throop, co-owned by them and Amie McLaughin & Gary Sharp, won 2 majors this weekend. Bro has been shown by Malia in the Bred By class.

Not to be outdone by her big brother, 13 inch Alice (Wonderlust N Kazuri Curiosity Leads To Trouble) went WB each day for her first 5 CH points. Alice was bred by Sarah Sweetman & Malia Throop and is owned by Malia Throop

Potato (aka GCH Kazuri N Joyful Noise Sunshine On A Cloudy Day) bred by Sarah Sweetman & Dolly Stearns, owned by Sarah Sweetman & Kayla Bonnin was shown by a Junior. They won the “Best of the Best” together- talk about being SO proud of this little girl.

New Champion SKYLAR

I am thrilled to announce that this weekend, In Yakima, Miss Skylar finished her AKC championship with all majors!! Thank you to judges Mr Robert L Robinson and Ms. Tempest Deptuch for finding Sky this weekend despite her silly actions.

Skylar was bred by my friends Lisa Young and Jenni Neift and is co-owned by, and loved by myself.

Skylar isn’t even one yet, and so she will get to now play in the yard and sleep on the couch until she is old enough to do her health testing

Nova’s beagle puppies are 2 weeks old

Nova’s little ones are starting to try and get up on their legs, but they are a little lazy and they honestly don’t put in much effort yet. I am sure now that their eyes are starting to open, they will start to try and explore their world a little more.

We moved them into the bigger whelping pen, to the room with a TV. I have started playing movies like “Jurassic Park” and “Godzilla” and “The Fast and the Furious” so they have a variety of sounds as they start the process to de-sensitize.

Nova is a wonderful, calm mom. She takes good care of her pups well.

Ivy’s beagle pups are 8 weeks old

Ivy’s babies are 8 weeks old and doing great. They are getting very good at being in their crates while they eat, and practicing being patient to be picked up so we dont have them jumping all over us. I believe in reinforcing the bahviour we want at a young age, so it becomes the norm and habit for a lifetime. I am trying to lay a good foundation for them to sit on as they leave for their new homes in a couple of weeks.

We did photos on some rocks today – I thought it would contain them but i was wrong – they all figured out how to jump off or climb off – lol. Safety comes first so I didnt try it for long 🙂

DeeJay’s beagle puppies are 6 weeks old

What a week but I can confirm that DeeJay’s 3 girls are all healthy and strong and showing no signs of trouble following last week’s hard time with little Artemis. I am forever thankful for friends who prayed with me and for the Drs I saw so we could save her.

Since it is so cold, we did photos on my favorite blue chair – I know I dont need to tell you why I love it so much – I think the colors being so bright are evidence of that in itself.

Is there anything cuter than beagle puppies in jackets?

Spring in Seattle has been wonderfully dry…but cold. The poor puppies are so keen to venture outside but even when it is “sunny” it is freezing out there, so we keep play sessions to 15-20 mins and then bring them in again. Sometimes I dont even take DeeJays pups out as they just start shivering. Poor little lovies.

It’s good for them to have a few moments outside to build muscle and body awareness – to gain confidence as they try new things like climbing stairs or standing on the swing, and push their limits. So, even in the cold a few mins to do this is a good thing.

Here are a few photos of them today with their adorable little jackets on – these are XS and still dont fully fit them – I love my adorable teeny babies <3

Nova’s beagle babies are 1 week old

Novas babies are thriving and Nova is doing a wonderful job raising them. She is a tender loving momma who loves to snuggle them and keeps a spotless whelping box.

We decided to name them after songs that had human names in them – hope you think they are as cute as we do.

Buddy – Big Red/White boy – named after “Buddy Holly” by Weezer

Andy – Tri Boy – named after David Bowie’s song about Andy Warhol

Stan – Small Red/White boy named after Eminem’s song “Stan”

Deliliah – Tri Girl 1 – named after Tom Jones’ song Delilah

Roxanne – Tri girl 2 – named after “Roxanne” by the Police

Gloria – Tri girl -named after Laura Branigan’s Song “Gloria”

Jolene – Red/White girl – named after “Jolene” by Dolly Parton
