Ruby welcomes two beautiful ruby cavalier puppies

Ruby went into labor on the day we expected – New Years Eve. Her signs were not obvious – she didn’t want to leave my side (or knee) and kept licking her lips. I put her in a crate beside me with a camera on her that I could discreetly watch from my bed 2 feet away.

Around 11:30pm, with no digging or grunting, she let out one big noise – I knew a baby had surprised her. And I was right. A big beautiful baby girl with little white markings. She was a lovely 5.9oz

She went to work caring for her daughter.

About an hour and a half later, she snorted and there was a wet sound – a tiny little angel Blenheim boy arrived – he never took a breath – he was barely bigger than my thumb and 1.8oz. I was so sad but I also know that there is usually a reason why they don’t make it, so I was thankful to lose him then and not in a week or month.

An hour after that again, Ruby started to push again, and another beautiful ruby girl arrived. 5.1oz of precious-ness.

Ruby has settled into motherhood quickly and loves her two girls so very much. The girls are healthy and strong and are already nursing.

Piper the cavalier welcomes a beautiful baby boy

I was so thrilled that after 2 years of not having any cavalier puppies, we had 2 mommies-to-be. Piper was due on the 30th Dec, but of course with cavaliers, we expect them to give birth around day 60 which was the 27th.

Christmas Eve, we noticed a strange discharge color. I called my vet and asked if we could do an evaluation. She agreed and we jumped in the car, so thankful especially considering the evening.

Piper was taken back for an immediate C-section. To our great disappointment, we had lost 4 out of the 5 puppies. The one remaining puppy was 3oz – tiny with no hair on his legs, muzzle or tail. All signs that he was premature.

Miss Piper came through surgery just fine and was quickly in love with her baby. This baby will need a lot of support if he is going to make it.

Pray for us <3

New cavalier puppies

There is nothing I love more than to celebrate with others and build community as we love and try to do right by these beautiful dogs we are entrusted with.

I had the honor of placing and co-owning Stella (CH Kazuri’s Diamond In The Sky) with Emma and Amie Adams who have been showing cavaliers longer than I have but never leapt into the breeding side of things. When they mentioned they wanted to start breeding, I was honored to work with them and it has been a pleasure to co-breed a litter and walk them through all the parts from breeding to whelping to dew claws and more.

They are doing a phenomenal job and I am so proud of them. The sire is their lovely boy Granger (GCH BeckWith If the Boot Fits).

Phoenix and Watson’s cavalier pups turn 8 weeks old.

They are bright and bold and doing so well – we love them so so much. This is probably the last time I will be able to take formal photos like this as they feel sitting still is much too boring and there is a whole world out there for them to find things.

Enjoy this week’s photos

Phoenix and Watson’s CKCS puppies are 5 weeks old

Phoenix’s cavalier boys are growing up so fast now – they are eating 3 meals a day and still nursing as much as Phoenix will allow – we can tell she doesn’t really want to as much anymore so the weaning process is happening slowly but in a healthy way.

I took the boys outside for their photos – the blossoms falling are so pretty right now and everything is so green and vibrant. Spring in the PNW is so pretty

Phoenix and Watson’s babies are 4 weeks old

The cavalier king charles babies are thriving and we are starting to see some personalities emerge as they are starting to explore their baby pen. They are beginning to make little growls and trills – I love this stage.

Phoenix’s pups turns 2 weeks old

Phoenix’s babies are just thriving. My daughter Brianna looked after them while I dashed to NZ to celebrate my Nana’s 90th birthday celebration. She did an amazing job. I am so thankful for her.

They have their eyes open now and are starting to get up on their feet.

Phoenix and Watson welcome 3 boys

This pairing is a Kazuri to Kazuri match – I don’t do those often as I try to match my girls with their best match, and that isn’t always what I own or bred. However, I was excited to take these two lines that I started and cross them together mixed with a loose line breeding of “Ripley” (GCH Brookhaven Believe it or not” being behind both of these dogs.

Phoenix went into labor on Saturday, and knowing she only had 3 on board, I didn’t want to take the risk getting one stuck (previous litter experience) and so we opted for a c-section. I am so thankful for vets who are available as needed.

I was expecting rubies and lo and behold we got 3 Blenheim boys. Who would have thought??? Not me.

I am so excited to watch these little fellas grow. Our sweet little Easter babies.

7 week photos of the ckcs and beagle puppies as they play outside

The puppies are tiny dogs now and love nothing more than when they can play in the big yard with the big dogs. Right now the weather in the PNW is unpredictable and so we make the most of going outside every moment we can.

The cavaliers are growing confidence as the beagle puppies show them the ropes. Our golden is a perfect playmate as she is gentle and shows them big dogs are nothing to be afraid of. Even dogs that are visiting like Darwin the beagle, enjoy moments of play – even if they try to nurse from him.

I am enjoying every moment with these precious little ones. I have just under 2 weeks before the first of the beagles starts to fly the coup. Sigh.
