We put up Christmas this weekend – we decorated the tree and put up our stockings – the festivities have begun. I couldn’t resist taking a couple of cute photos of the cavalier puppies – Sly is going to his new home today and so it was perfect timing for the very last photos of them all.
The beautiful thing about fall and ruby cavalier king charles pups is that they look so gorgeous together. The PNW has taken a cold and wet turn and so time outside has been limited for the cavalier pups.
However, we had an afternoon of a break and I took the cavalier babies outside for a little play in the leaves. We didn’t stay out there long as I didn’t want them to get chilled, but I took some cute pictures while we were there.
Cavalier king charles spaniels are notorious for not waiting till day 63 to give birth. I predicted that Phoenix would give birth sometime over the weekend and true to form, Sunday afternoon she started to get super clingy, not letting me out of her sight and panting a little. By 5pm things started to get a little more serious as she panted and dug in her bed beside me, and vomited a little.
She started pushing and we realised that there was a baby but no sack. These are the births that make us most nervous as it’s harder on mom when there is no lubrication. I could tell the baby was a good size as with every push Phoenix would yelp. I ask ed my husband to come and help and I held Phoenix’s hips apart as he gently guided it out.
Baby 1 was an 8oz girl! A beautifully marked blenhiem girl!!
Baby 2 got suck, once again coming without a sack, but this time even harder feet first. We tried so hard to get her quickly, but 20 mins of gently pulling with every contraction, we knew there was little hope of a live baby at the end. And we were right – our 2nd perfectly marked blenhiem girl was born DOA 🙁 UGH. We did all we could and rubbed her down to no avail.
At this point, I started called ER vets – I didnt want to pull each puppy out – it’s hard on us and the mom – and I didnt want to lose any more. 3 ER clinics said they were full and not taking any more patients. One told us to call Mt Vernon – despite being an hour away, we called them and they said COME so we jumped in the car and drove.
Phoenix and the blankets and her firstborn were on my lap and my husband drove us. On the way, she started pushing and had a tiny ruby boy. We later weighed him at 4.5oz.
While waiting in the waiting room in the clinic, she started pushing again and had a 2nd ruby baby boy – again small at 4.5oz.
The vet asked if we still wanted surgery with 1 pup to go. We decided to see if she could do it herself and went into a quiet room for her to labor. The final pup, a ruby girl, was another big one but the vet assisted her out and was able to do it so she made it.
I think we arrived home at 4am. Exhausted but grateful. Phoenix is a great mom and now the work begins.
I was so proud to pilot Watson myself this weekend and we got Best Of Breed on Saturday under judge Mrs Donelle Richards. We then went on to make the cut in a competitive toy group and even played in the Owner handler group.
I am very proud of this 2.5 year old boy who is proving to hold his own and we are just a few points shy of his Grand CH now.
I got Covid-19 this week – thankfully I am vaccinated and so my symptoms have been fairly mild – mostly I have been exhausted and so I have been just in “get the basics done” mode. And so, taking photos got put on the back burner until I felt up to doing it.
The babies are growing like beautiful little weeds – they are stronger and playing together. They are running and wrestling and growling and have definitely found their sweet little voices barking with delight when I bring their meals. They LOVE food 🙂 It’s good. They are eating 3 meals a day now and only nursing a few times a day – Charlotte is enjoying becoming more of a playmate than a mommy.

It was a wonderful day in Puyallup today. At the Cavaliers of Puget Sound specialty, Summer (Kazuri’s Sweet Summertime Kisses) won her class and then went on to winning reserve to the 5 point major.
I was very proud of her as it was literally her 2nd time stepping in the ring (her 1st time was this time last year at the COPS show).
She was a little shy at first but by the time we went into the winners circle she found her groove.
It was a fab specialty – thank you to everyone for their hard work (Susan Lockleer – I am looking at you) and to the judge Dr. Vandra Huber who stepped in at the last minute to judge for us (the judge who we were supposed to have had an emergency and went into hospital) and found my sweet girl.
I also showed Phoenix (Kazuri’s On The Wings Of Love TKN) in the competitive BBE class, and she didn’t place today, but I still love her Congratulations to all the winners today.
Time flies when we are having fun and our Easter gift this year is that Charlotte’s puppies turned a week old. They are all thriving and active. They are nursing well and gaining weight like they should. Charlotte is healing well from her c-section and is a wonderful mother, taking great care of them. They are clean and bonny. What more could we ask for?

We are so happy to announce that the first Kazuri litter for 2021 will be (all going well) cavaliers. We expect them to be born late March/early April.
Miss Charlotte is in whelp to German import Est/Lat/Germ CH Angel’s Pride Zakkary.
This is a tri x blenheim breeding and we could get puppies in either color from this litter.

I love watching my puppies play – they are a constant source of joy and laughter. I wanted to share a couple of out-takes that I happened to catch this week and share the joy.
The little faded tri boy colliding with my little 6 month old cavalier Summer. No cavaliers or beagles were injured in this 🙂
My other out-take was Miss “Katherine” from my Vixen x BJ litter – she was trying to jump onto the back of a chair, but she mis-calculated. Well, you can see the results 🙂
Just like the first image, she was just fine and dandy – but it made for a good giggle for me.
Charlotte doesn’t bear the “Kazuri” affix because she was the result of a combined breeding between myself and Alisha and Susan Lockleer from Lockestar cavaliers. We felt it was only fitting to combine our affixes to show it was a joint effort.
Miss Charlotte doesn’t live with me, she lives with a guardian home (a home where she is, for the most part, a beloved pet – but when the time comes, if she passes her health tests they will allow me to have a litter or two from her). So, when she was visiting this week, I took the opportunity to get some updated photos of her.
